What else Wise publishes
- Starting rate. Wise's Japan pricing page says sending starts from 0.27% and varies by currency. It does not give a rate for yen.
- Exchange rate. Wise says it uses the mid-market rate, with no hidden markup on the rate.
- Large amounts. Wise says transfers of 25,000 USD or the equivalent get a fee discount. Its US site showed a fee of 32,360 yen by bank transfer for 4,500,000 yen, including a 519 yen discount.
- Account. Opening an account and holding money are free.
- Debit card. The card costs 1,200 yen to order. ATM withdrawals are free up to 25,000 yen a month per account. Above that, the fee is 100 yen plus 1.75% of the amount over 25,000 yen. ATM providers may add their own charges.

What we could not confirm
- A fixed fee and percentage for yen. We found neither on a page we could open. A search snippet showed an old-looking formula, so we left it out.
- Apple Pay. The fee table lists it, but the JPY guide names only bank transfer and debit card. Check the options shown in your account.
- ID documents. Wise's guide does not say which documents it needs, or whether it asks for My Number.
- Bank comparisons. We have no verified bank figures, so we do not compare Wise with banks here. Ask your bank for its fee and exchange rate, and compare the amount your recipient gets.
